Great experience with this shop. Bought some wonderful silk for making a Taylor kurta. The owner was very helpful and patient other than incredibile compétent!
Shakeel, the owner, could not have been more helpful. He explained the differences of all the fabrics and what actually makes a pashmina a pashmina. He also explained the prices, that are very good, and how to spot something that may not be as good as claimed, If you are in Varanasi I would highly recommend going, and if your not in Varanasi there is a website, though you'll miss out on Shakeels very useful knowledge
I had a fantastic experience at Baba Black Sheep in Varanasi! The owner took great care to educate me on cashmere products, explaining the differences between fakes, blends, and pure authentic pashmina wool cashmere. His knowledge and honesty were refreshing, and unlike many other shops, he never pressured me to buy—allowing me to take my time and make an informed choice. I discovered this store through the Lonely Planet guidebook, and I couldn’t agree more with their recommendation. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality cashmere in Varanasi, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
The owner is very unfriendly and has a very aggressive attitude, which makes you feel very uncomfortable. He was rude and had unprofessional offensive comments. The customers after us also ran away from there, which were also Western tourists seeking advice about silk and sarees, but the guy's attitude is not worth it.
