Quite satisfied with staff behaviour and the atmosphere ।।Food was good।। Fish kabiraji was as usual।। But Kashmiri pulao needs improvement।।।Mutton was soft and tender।।Overall a good experience..
I was very pleased with my poached eggs on both visits. Make sure you emphasise poached though as I was served fried at first.
This is the branch of famous Mitra Cafe of North Calcutta in Puri, catering to the Bengali Pilgrims who comes to the abode of Shri Jagannath, Shri Kshetra, and Travllers who just love Puri. The Restaurant is situated at the southern end of the Puri Sea Beach, and you can see the big glowing banner of Mitra Cafe from the Swargadwar Beach. On entering the restaurant, you will be welcomed with classic Bengali songs, reminding you of Calcutta and it culture. The seats are comfy. They don't have bottled sodas, so, they will only serve in tumbler. Coming to food quality, the Fish Fry is a must try, afterall, this is Mitra Cafe's Signature dish. Along with it, other great dishes include the Fish Kobiraji, Mutton Cutlet and Mutton Kobiraji. The fish fillet we got was however very thin, which is a minus point, but the taste is good. Infact, in matter of taste, it certainly keeps the tradition of Mitra Cafe.
Went in late...around 5pm. Small place smelling of fish....change that to stinking of. They need better ventilation. Had mutton cutlet (terrible, chewy pieces only, no taste, the coating was well done) fish kabiraji.... Again the form factor is good, makes for good photographs , the taste is best forgotten, prawn cutlet- the filling was coming apart..... They need serious training on how to make the insides of a cutlet...their skill is limited to the casing. Price I would say is reasonable if only the food was good. Saw another family being served Katla Kalia. It looked terrible, every one got a small gada piece. I wouldn't go back for free food.
As the legacy says… the nostalgia speaks for itself. A rare nostalgic experience. The cafe- well frankly speaking, they don’t have coffee, but super quality food. Must try it’s fish fries and chicken cutlets. Btw, i took a parcel of the fish fries. Perfect packaging with perfect added dip.
We ordered a mutton thali which was great but they don't give free extra rice. Then we ordered a chilli garlic egg noodles which was okay. And an egg fried rice which was also just okay. We also ordered chilly baby corn which was nice. All in all an okay experience. Wanted to order their Luchi and mutton curry but that was not available so pivoted to the noodles.
Located a bit far from Swargadwar, Puri, Mitra Café offers a pleasant dining experience with its nice ambience and tasteful décor. The service was prompt, and the staff ensured we were comfortable throughout our visit. The food was a mix of flavors and quality. The fish fry stood out with its crisp texture and fresh taste, while the chicken fried rice paired with the red wine sauce was flavorful and satisfying. However, the portion sizes felt slightly on the lower side given the price point. Overall, it was a good experience. If you’re in the mood for a cozy setting and delicious food, Mitra Café is worth a visit, though a bit of an adjustment in portion sizes would make it even better.
